Hey it is a new year!!! What a great way to start off the year then to be in the hosa program, being around supportive people and ones that care to push you to your limits. They know your breaking point and they will help you obtain your goals. We hope you have a great new year!!!!

Hey members! this week is national HOSA week! Be sure to participate in all the dress topis this week and everyday in Mrs. Watts class we will have an activity planned for all of you! be sure to wear the appropriate dress to be put into a raffal to win one of our HOSA lockets:) Keep spreading the word of HOSA around school, friends, family, and within the community:) Have a great and enjoyable week!

Hey HOSA members:) I just wanted to tell you all about our YES training at Disneyland on the 3rd of November. Your MAHST academy officers were able to go to a training and learn all about being a team and letting our leadership show within our school academy. All officers were very greatful for this oppertunity that was given to all of us. I know that we are all excited and very grateful to bring some of these wonderful ideas to the table as a team to bring all members closer together:) Feel free to ask any officer about there experience and what they have to share with each and everyone of our precious members.

Congratulations to the MAHST Academy Class of 2015 for being officially inducted tonight! We are so glad to have you joined the classes of 2014 and 2013!! We have a great year planned, and the newly installed officer team is working hard!  An amazing night with ALL of the leadership team present!! Tonight your journey as the “Unexpected Life Savers” truly began!!

West Nile Virus is on the rise in 6 states with 693 cases reported (26 of them fatalities).  To help prevent the spread of  WNV, empty any standing water and clean out pools with standing GREEN water including ponds, pools and bird baths.  Report dead birds and squirrels to the State WNV hotline at 877-WNV-BIRD.  To protect yourself, avoid outdoor activities at dawn and dusk when mosquitos are most active, wear shoes, socks and long pants, apply DEET insect repellent and make sure doors and windows have tight fitting secure screens.

A round of applause goes out to ALL of the officer candidates who ran for HOSA office on Wednesday! We are excited to see what the new officers will bring to the table.  Congrats to Alyssa Hudson, Matthew Onita, Hanna Blalock, and Rebecca Shanefield!

Special recognition to Joshua Bailey for running for Freshman office! He will be joined by a team of other new leaders in the next few weeks!  Keep up the great work Josh!!

Freshmen and Sophomore elections today at the first HOSA meeting of the year! Good luck to all of our candidates!!

Three AVHS students lit up the stage at the 2012 National HOSA Leadership Conference.  Brittany Woods, AVHS Alum Class of 2011, served as the National HOSA Secondary Board Representative and made us all so proud.  Desiree Bernard competed in the National Health Care Issues Exam, receiving a MASTERY designation.  Approxiamtely 1200 students took the exam with only a handful receiving the Mastery designation…WAY TO GO Desiree!!!

AND for a second year in a row, AVHS HOSA was recognized as a National Outstanding HOSA Chapter!  Thanks to Brianna Zaragoza for preparing an outstanding book of evidence, and Zhane Gay for representing the chapter at the conference!
